Many a villager longed to be a master archer. The youngsters would spend hours shooting cabbages, potatoes and whatever fruit or vegetable they could get their hands on, all to prove they had what it took to be a master of the bow.
The ash longbow was their first weapon in this journey. Many wouldn't be able to muster the strength needed to pull the string taught. More still would struggle to fire the arrow straight, missing their targets by embarrassingly large distances. But those who could wield the bow, who could strike the cabbages from as far as possible, they would become the most popular of the Bramblemead youngsters.
